In an era where the internet forms the backbone of daily operations, ensuring that web browsers like Google Chrome are regularly updated is paramount for security, stability, and access to the latest features.
This blog post dives into the intricate process of managing Google Chrome updates within an organizational framework using Microsoft Intune and Administrative Templates.
Google Chrome stands as a cornerstone for both individual and organizational internet activities, necessitating a robust management system for its frequent updates. Intune, Microsoft’s cloud-based endpoint management tool, emerges as a pivotal solution in this scenario, offering extensive device, application, and data management capabilities across diverse platforms such as Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.
The spotlight of this guide is on leveraging Intune ADMX Templates, a method traditionally reserved for Active Directory Group Policy, to streamline Google Chrome updates. These XML-based ADMX templates, accompanied by language-specific ADML templates, serve as the foundation for setting group policies.
The initial step in this management process involves downloading the ADMX templates for Windows 10 and Google Updates. Following the download, these templates are uploaded to the Intune console under Configuration profiles, emphasizing the importance of beginning with the Windows 11 templates to ensure proper order.
With the templates uploaded and their status confirmed as available, the next phase involves creating a new configuration profile for Windows 10 or 11 devices. Within this profile, the Imported Administrative templates option is selected, enabling the search and configuration of update policies specifically for Google Chrome. Finalizing the setup, the configuration profile is assigned to an Azure AD group, ensuring that the update policies are applied across the organization.
This guide not only simplifies the process of managing Google Chrome updates via Intune but also underscores the importance of keeping web browsers up-to-date in safeguarding organizational data and enhancing internet browsing experiences.
