This Microsoft Intune blog post will show how to block copy-paste from iOS Business Apps using Microsoft Intune.

Microsoft Intune MDM capabilities across Windows, iOS, and Android allow businesses to protect corporate data using App protection policies (for Windows, we use Windows Information Protection policies).

Intune’s Mobile Application Management (MAM) features are a suite of services capable of managing the entire lifecycle of an application deployed on a mobile device.

With MAM, we can push, configure, monitor, and update applications on iOS and Android devices. On top of these features, we can also apply protection policies that protect data at the application level.

MAM is smart enough to apply policies only to corporate data, not to applications or data that are in a personal context for the user.

Steps to Block Copy Paste from iOS Business Apps with Intune

To create an App protection policy that blocks copy-paste of corporate data from managed applications, open the Intune portal (https://intune.microsoft.com).

  1. From the portal, click on Apps.
  2. Under Policy, click on App protection policies and select New policy from the top menu.
  3. Select iOS/iPadOS from the platform selection menu.

Name the policy and click Next to go to the Apps section. In this case, we are going to create a MAM policy for Microsoft Excel (Public apps).

In the Create policy page, scroll down to the Restrict cut, copy, and paste between other apps section.

From the drop-down menu, select the best options that suit your needs. Don’t forget to set the Cut and copy character limit option.

To deploy the policy, continue with the configuration options and apply it to users and devices as needed.
